Literacy News: Week of April 4-8

Word Wall Words for the Week: 1. delicious 2. upon 3. since 4. during  5. through

Reading Goals: This week we will continue summarizing non-fiction text. We will do this by finding main idea and important supporting details. We will read a fiction text related to protecting the Earth, and students will work on summarizing this too. Fortunately, students are getting better at summarizing.

Language Goals: We will continue with adjectives that compare. Students will learn the rules for adding er or est to adjectives. See pgs. 404-405 as a reference. In addition, this week students will be learning about prefixes. These are word parts that are added to the beginning of a word in order to change its meaning. As a reference, you may see pages 190-191.

Writing: After working on publishing their fables, students will practice writing summaries using non-fiction text.

2. A note from Mrs. Maduro, our Elementary Art Teacher:
Dear Parents,

Earth day is coming up, and we will be making art with recyclable materials! Please send us your unwanted egg cartons, cardboard toilet paper rolls, and old CDs. We will be collecting these materials with your child or bring them to the Elementary Art Room (in front of the Elementary Principal's office). Thank you in advance for your help!
